Rev. Keith Belt brought the message at the Burning Springs M. E. Church as Rev. Carlos Nutter remains under the weather.

Nancy Hall reported that her oncologist gave her a good report. Roy Copen noted that this would be duly reported in the news media.

Eva G. Pennington is home after a hospital stay.

The Creston auction was cancelled because Bobby Ray Starcher couldn't travel because of bad weather conditions where he lives in Oil City Pennsylvania. I-80 was closed there on several occasions.

The Creston area continues to receive snow and now has cold weather with some phase changes in certain water pipes.

Don Rhodes, Orrison & James E. Schrader, Sr. and Bessie Arthur were attending to business in Elizabeth.

Daniel Ludwig & Roger Whited were attending to business in Creston.

W. Harrison Schenerlein IV was visiting family on the Richardsonville Road over New Year's Eve. He made it clear he wanted oatmeal for breakfast with brown sugar on top.

On Christmas Eve long time oil and gas accountant and expert Betty Quick passed away in a Marietta rest home. She started in the oil and gas business working for A. E. Cavender and was widely known for her expertise and accumulated knowledge which she gladly shared. She was the widow of Quentin Quick who worked for Union Carbide. In the Creston News she was generally known as "BQuick".

Jane & Nancy Engelke attended Talia Markham's sendoff party in Ripley. Talia is the present Miss West Virginia and will soon leave for Las Vegas for the Miss America contest.

The actions of the would be Moslem terrorist on Christmas Day gives a new meaning to "Balls of Fire" and he is now known as the "Panty Bomber". Mrs. Napolitano who is "protector of the homeland" said everything worked well & the big eared one said "he was a loner" when it was clear that, as his father had told the CIA, he was or had been in Yemen training for some bad mission. Now some are suggesting Mrs. Napolitano for the Supreme Court justice as a reward for her excellent work. The folks who check passengers are reactive, not proactive and terrorists just laugh. Of course they are not allowed to profile for terrorists as that would be "mean". Besides it obviously is much more fun to check out buxom Scandinavian type women than deal with swarthy young men who speak Arabic. The attack was a grim reminder of the fact that there is, indeed, a worldwide Terror War and bowing to a Saudi king, apologizing for America and hobnobbing with two bit despots won't change a thing as far as those who hold the view, "Death to the infidels."

Local residents of all ages have been enjoying their Christmas presents. The younger set have been busy with bicycles, toy trucks and such while the older folks have been sporting new threads and reading Going Rogue by Sarah Palin & Glenn Beck's Arguing with Idiots.

The cold weather which was obviously not part of the global warming scam has been good for local oil and gas producers as the line pressure has dropped allowing much more local natural gas to be produced, albeit at low prices. An expert in "the weather" noted that ever since the end of the Little Ice Age in 1850 the planet had been warming or that was the case until ten years ago when matters reversed. The hottest year since the medieval warm period (back when the Vikings farmed Greenland) was apparently 1934.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil (paraffin based sweet crude) rose fifty cents to $72.25/bbl.

With the terrorist connection with Yemen (where the Club Gitmo boys are now being sent to show that America is "now nice") the proposed delivery of LNG (liquefied natural gas) to Boston made the news. It is interesting to note that 'apparently' local natural gas which could be produced in greater quantities but is now subject to curtailment wasn't good enough for the proper Bostonians but 'politically correct' Arab natural gas was fine and helps, of course transfer American wealth to "needy Arabs" who want to buy RPGs, IEDs and such.

Local residents are reminded that January is the month that one must pay Creston Community Building dues if one wants to vote on any issues or officers. The sum is one United States paper dollar so with inflation and the unlimited printing of money the dues have actually gone down - cheap at double the price.
