Virginia B. Keene, 83 - Hartville, Ohio

Virginia B. Keene, 83, of Hartville, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio.

She was born February 16, 1926, in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Adam Buck and Esta Mae Given. She married Foster Keene in November 1944. They had been married 58 years when Foster passed away March 15, 2003. Together they owned and operated Keene's Vegetable Market, Swamp Road outside Hartville for over 20 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Her recent residence was at St. Luke Lutheran Home, North Canton, Ohio, where she waged a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue VanCamp in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Roger Carper of Hartville, Ohio; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and Beverly Keene and William Cecil Keene all of Hartville; sisters, Pebble Humphries of Batavia, Ohio and Norma Cooper of Largo, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Faye Given of Sommerville, SC; grandchildren, Donna Wolcott, John T. VanCamp, Jason Carper, Kelly Shoemaker, Joel Nichols and Anthony Nichols; great grandchildren, Jennifer Spencer, Carl Spencer, Austin Carper, Xena Shoemaker, Brody Shoemaker, Kaylee Nichols, Emily and Audrey Nichols; great-great grandchild, Hayden Spencer.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Burial was in the Keen Cemetery, Newton.
