TIME SHEET AT CENTER OF CHARGES AGAINST WIRT ASSESSOR

(12/19/2009)
The latest accusations in the ongoing investigation of Wirt County Assessor Debbie Hennen are in a criminal complaint filed in a Wirt County Magistrate's office.

Hennen is now being accused of fraudulently filing a document stating an employee worked nine days this past July.

The complaint filed with the court says that employee worked only one of the nine days.

The criminal complaint says:

"Ms. Hennen completed a time sheet for (Jason) Reeder for the month of July 2009."

"Ms. Hennen indicated on the time sheet that Mr. Reeder worked nine days during the month of July."

"Ms. Hennen completed the time sheet with knowledge that Mr. Reeder had only worked one day in July."

"Mr. Reeder had advised Ms. Hennen that he would be on vacation during separate times in the month of July."

State Police Sgt. A. D. Nichols, in the complaint, said "When completing the time sheet, Ms. Hennen was overhead saying the time sheet would need to be fudged..."

The complaint says that the assessor turned over the time sheet to Maysel Miller, the payroll clerk in the County Clerk's office.

Hennen's attorney, Michele Rusen, issued a statement saying Hennen later corrected the time sheet, and that the employee did not receive any pay to which he was not entitled.

Hennen said she is looking forward to defending herself against such charges.

Hennen was arrested earlier by State Police in Elizabeth for intimidation of a witness, allegedly bullying her office employees.

Authorities have been tight-lipped about the nature of an investigation being conducted on Hennen since last August, but these latest charges are likely at the center of the investigation.
