LKACF BUILDS LK AREA - Scholarship Fund Building During Holiday Season

(12/12/2009)
The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF-serving Wirt and Calhoun Counties) is working to build its general purpose scholarship fund. This fund, the Little Kanawha Area Scholarship, was created to act as a general purpose scholarship to provide college tuition support for the Wirt and Calhoun County students.

The scholarship is supported by donations from the community's residents. Individuals, businesses, and organizations can make gifts to this fund in honor or as a memorial to special people of our community and each year the annual scholarship award will be made in the honorees' names.

"This holiday season, instead of giving another tie or bottle of perfume; consider making a gift to the community in honor of the people on your list.

What a wonderful gift to give someone special this Christmas - a way to be forever remembered and honored for supporting the education of our community's youth.

Making a donation in someone's name allows the community foundation to honor these special person each year, gives the donor a tax deduction for the gift, and provides needed resources for educational support for our students," commented Jane Winters, LKACF representative.

The community foundation is working to add $5,000 to the scholarship fund this holiday season. The generosity of Wirt and Calhoun County citizens will help the community foundation realize the dream of a new scholarship fund to help our local students.

LKACF is an affiliate of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF), which was established in 1963, and in all, serves ten counties in West Virginia and one county in Ohio.

LKACF was established as an affiliate of PACF in 2004 by area citizens to build permanent funds that will support charitable causes in the Wirt and Calhoun counties forever.

LKACF has an Advisory Board of volunteers who live and/or work in the county, and who strive to build the visibility and grant and scholarship assets of the Foundation.

The current LKACF Advisory Board includes Jim Bennett, Chair; Fred Rader, Vice Chair; Diane Ludwig, Jean Simmers, Jim Bruce, Bill Howley, Dee Scritchfield, Dan Metz, Pat Lydon, Alvin Engelke, Karen Caltrider, Russell Cline, and Rick Sampson.

Any size donation to the LKACF Scholarship Fund or any LKACF fund is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
