For the past four years, the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority has chosen a recycling champion to coincide with America Recycles Day, held each November.

Calhoun's 2009 recycling champion is Cain Farms of Big Bend, WV, operated by Francis and Donna Cain. Cain Farms brings all of its paper feed bags from its large cattle operation to Cabot Recycling Station for recycling.

By recycling its feedbags, Cain Farms is helping fight climate change, avoiding costly disposal fees, and conserving resources. Every ton of paper recycled saves 17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water.

The executive director of the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority presented the 2009 Recycling Champion Award to Stephen Beecher of Cain Farms on November 13 at Cabot Recycling Station.

As part of acknowledging Cain Farms' significant recycling leadership, the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority would like to point out that we all benefit from their efforts, which provide for a better tomorrow.

Cabot Recycling Station is open to accept recyclables 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Nonferrous metals are purchased on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Call 304-354-7786 for more information.
