Calhoun did something Monday night it had not done in a long time: It won a scrimmage game.

The Red Devils won four out of five varsity periods played and earned an overall 69-46 victory over the visiting Bulldogs.

After Tygart's Valley won the first period 11-10 Calhoun reeled off four straight period victories including a 24-7 bulge in the fifth and final period as it pulled away from the Bulldogs.

Zach Moore led Calhoun with 18 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. He was supported by Chuck Kendall with 14, Justin Gerwig with 12 and Cai Clothier with 10. Kyle Keesler added eight while Anthony Richards had four and Caleb Schoolcraft added two, Daniel Sims, Randy Fluharty, Bronson Clark, Brandon Sampson and Tyler Bennett all played but did not score.

Calhoun was strong in most phases of the game save for about a 50 per cent night from the free throw line and an 0-4 night on three point attempts.

While Moore led the way off the boards and in assists he had plenty of help as Kendall and Clothier chipped in with six rebounds each while Fluharty, Gerwig and Richards both added four while Keesler had four assists and Kendall a pair.

Tygart's Valley won the junior varsity game by a 33-24 score despite the play of Schoolcraft and Ricky Hall had eight apiece. Bennett added five while Stewart Fitzwater had two and Quentin Murphy one. Caleb Richards, Derek Dawson and Luke Moore all played but did not score. Richards led the Red Devils in rebounding with nine while Hall added seven.

Calhoun opens the regular season at home Dec. 16 against Roane County. The junior varsity game is scheduled to start at 5:30 with the varsity game to follow.
