Police say 18-year-old Martrell Laviece Mitchell turned himself in and was arraigned and charged with attempted first-degree murder, malicious wounding, two counts of wanton endangerment and conspiracy.

The victim is 22-year old Alvin Mitchell of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who was shot eight times.

The men are not related.

Police say the two Mitchells had gotten into a verbal exchange.

Martrell Mitchell remains in jail on $500,000 bond.

NICHOLAS MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDER - Richard White, 41, of Nicholas County is behind bars and charged with murder.

White allegedly got into an altercation at Harvey Hersman's house at Mt. Nebo, and shot and killed him.

Hersman, 57, was dead at the scene.

WOMAN'S THROAT CUT - A 73-year-old woman ran for help after her son and grandson slashed her throat, threw her in the back of a pickup truck and threatened to throw her off the New River Gorge Bridge.

She is in stable condition in a Beckley hospital.

Michael Burnette, 47, and his 21-year-old son Christopher have been arrested for the crime.

Both have been charged with attempted murder, malicious wounding, kidnapping and conspiracy.

The Bradley residents are being held on $1 million bond each.

Burnette and his son received serious injuries in a beating they received shortly after their incarceration in a regional jail and both had to be hospitalized.
