Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

The big news in this part of the world is, of course, deer season. The Annamoriah Cowpoke, who now lives down among the Tar heels is spending some time visiting friends & relatives but his #1 plan is to harvest a trophy buck. Nephew Steve indicated that perhaps the antlers would be ground up to make a potion.

Four wheelers, mules and other fancy ATVs, UTVs, etc have been hauled to the Creston area to assist with the harvest of the DNR's prize critters. Alvin Engelke got one the other day but his insurance company wasn't so excited. When one hits a horse or a cow the owner is responsible but the DNR says the regular rules don't apply to them and refuse to pay for damages caused by their animals.

During the last week or so there have been a lot of shots including some after dark. No doubt sportsmen were "sighting in their rifles" and checking out their "night sights". One of the game wardens who belongs to a big hunting club said he was going to check out everyone and write up everyone who didn't have written permission slips.

Heather Dawn Marks, age 34, died at the home of Howard Rader Sharp near Spencer. The daughter of Shelia J. Vandale, she was buried in the Snyder/McCray graveyard at Creston.

Mike Graham is a patient in a Parkersburg hospital. He has been undergoing treatments for cancer. His brother Roger came in from Pennsylvania.

Paul Edward Graham was calling on Charles & Euell Russell.

Jane Engelke motored to Detroit & Windsor Ontario for some photo shoots for one of her pageant clients. She is also involved in a Tee Vee shoot. Her sister Anna was visiting friends in Charlottesville Virginia.

The local area has had a rather pleasant fall with plenty of Indian summer. Some of the flowers got confused and bloomed and on Saturday honeybees were busy gathering nectar. One local resident picked some fresh broccoli for supper. The other day some anglers were trying their luck in the West Fork of the Little Kanawha.

The High Priest of the Church of Man Made Global Warming (Al Gore) said the other day that the center of the earth had a temperature of millions of degrees, making clear to all the extent of his scientific knowledge. Also information came from England where it was shown that data was selected to prove a predetermined point, which, of course, is dishonest, to say the least. The West Virginia Farm Bureau is planning on making a very public statement about the proposed federal "Cap & Tax Bill". Full details will be reported next week.

Jack dePue has almost all the roof on the addition to his building.

Carl Ferrell took advantage of some of the balmy weather and did some roof painting.

The local trash company which is based in New Jersey went through some folks garbage. A spokesperson announced that the Shimer family was going to get a bill "because they were putting out trash with out paying". Of course the Shimer family had sold their home quite some time back. Ernest, Annie and Mark Shimer, the ones who lived in the home, have all passed away & likely won't pay the bills.

The congress critters voted Saturday night for cloture on the big eared one's 2000 plus page health care bill as a start to take over all health care with resultant rationing and the requirement for government approval of likely most life decisions. As a taste of what to expect the government report "suggesting" that women wait until age 50 to get mammograms is very instructive. Females, especially in high-risk families, obviously need to be checked at a much younger age but with complete government control of health decisions such will not be allowed. This particular decision reflects the attitude that Marxists have toward women. Of course with Marxism there are no individual rights - all is for the benefit of the state but women are definitely down lower on the totem pole. And, of course, women in their 40s & 50s are past breeding age and the Marxist young bucks would be much more interested in the "young stuff". To quote that famous liberal icon George Bernard Shaw, "Better dead; better dead."

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dropped to $69.75/bbl while local natural gas sold in the $3 range. There has been talk of a curtailment of West Virginia gas production. One Harrison County oil & gas man noted that the REX Pipeline (Rocky Mountains Express) was now completed and that gas was now eliminating local gas in the market place.

Russell Hupp was among those who attended the big oil field auction in Jackson County.

Payments from the Dominion (Mother Hope) class action lawsuit have been sent out to mineral owners.

Folks who want to get into the political scene are reminded that it won't be long before the filing period in West Virginia next year. There will be some local offices up for grabs along with congress critters, legislators and the like. Now is the time that one can make a difference.
