CALHOUN-GILMER PHONE BARRIERS GO DOWN - Local Calling Begins Friday For Many Customers

(02/28/2002)
It has been a long time a'comin', the removal of the long-distance phone barrier between Calhoun and Gilmer counties. Starting Friday, March 1, according to the Citizens Communications Company, now owned by Frontier, the toll charges will end for many customers.

Customers in the 655 Arnoldsburg exchange will be able to call the Glenville and Gassaway exchanges.

Customers in the 354 Grantsville exchange will be able to call the Glenville exchange.

According to a press release from the phone company, business and residential customers who subscribe to premium calling in either of the exchanges call Glenville and Gassaway without incurring charges.

There are some stipulations on Basic, Community and Community Plus service, certain "bands," and charges could occur between the exchanges.

The Federal Communications Commission granted a waiver allowing Verizon (Glenville) to provide local calling to Arnoldsburg and Grantsville, which allowed Frontier-Citizens to establish two-way calling to Verizon.
