Irene C. Reed, 77, of Spencer, WV died February 25, 2002, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

She was born July 11, 1924 in Roane County, a daughter of the late Otmer E. and Minnie Mae Bartlett Carpenter. She was retired from the G. C. Murphy Company with 40 years of service, and a member of the Spencer Rebekkah Lodge #132, the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary for 15 years, and the Spencer Baptist Temple.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville "Dick" Reed in 1985; three brothers, Cecil, Homer and Willis P. Carpenter; three sisters, Nina Henthorn, Elsie Spedden and Delcie Carpenter.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Becky Reed of New Haven, and Neil and Brooke Reed of Ravenswood; one sister, Jean Hively of Spencer; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, David "Pee Wee" Reed of Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Mary Duncan of Ripley, and May Nichols of Hartville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 28, at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Rick Perrine officiating. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
