COPLIN CLINIC RECOGNIZES NURSE PRACTITIONERS

November 9-15th is designated as Nurse Practitioners Week. A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse who has completed specific advanced nursing education, generally a Masters degree or Doctoral degree, and training in the diagnosis and management of common as well as a few complex medical conditions. Nurse Practitioners provide a broad range of health care services.

Nurse Practitioners have provided health care services to patients' for more than 40 years. The Nurse Practitioner role had it's inception in the mid 1960's in response to a nationwide shortage of physicians. Nurse Practitioners provide primary and some acute care, and are qualified to meet the majority of patients' health care needs. They promote a comprehensive approach to health care and emphasize to overall health and wellness of their patients. It is stated that patients who see Nurse Practitioners for their primary care often have fewer Emergency Rom visits, shorter hospital stays, and lower medication costs.

Coplin Memorial Health Clinic and Wirt County Schools Wellness Center would like to recognize our staff of Nurse Practitioners. They are Cherrie Cowan, 19 years, Charlotte Lantz, 7 years and Deborah Casdorph, 17 years. Thank you ladies for your many years of dedication and hard work.
