CHRISTOPHER TODD SMITH TRIAL SET FOR WEDNESDAY

(11/03/2009)
Christopher Todd Smith's long-delayed trial on drug charges brought against him in 2007 by the Grantsville Police Department is set for Wednesday in Grantsville, with Judge David W. Nibert presiding.

Last April, Judge Nibert rejected a plea agreement regarding Smith's charges, indicating Smith had a 20-year history of criminal charges in several counties.

Smith had pled guilty to "conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to deliver with an unknown individual," after police said they discovered a gallon bag of marijuana in his residence in 2007.

During that same incident, Smith was cleared of charges filed against him for allegedly shooting a BB gun at a Charleston Gazette newspaper carrier, indicating a problem with inconsistent testimony.

More recently, Smith had requested a change in venue, claiming he would not get a fair trial in Calhoun because of "bad boy" publicity.
