There was nothing fancy Friday night, just basic Calhoun football: run, run and run again.

And that's exactly what the Red Devils did posting a 21-7 victory over Braxton at Morris Stadium in Glenville keeping their playoff hopes alive.

The Red Devils, 5-4, got two touchdowns from Zack Moore and another from Randy Fluharty to more than offset anything Braxton threw at them.

Basically Calhoun was not in any danger of losing after taking a two touchdown lead at halftime but Braxton's strong defense kept the Red Devils from administering a knockout blow.

Calhoun took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter when Moore rambled up the middle from seven yards out. The Red Devils missed the extra point.

Moore scored again, this time from 13 yards out, and Randy Fluharty ran in the extra points for a 14-0 lead.

Both touchdowns came after long drives on the ground, something Calhoun did all night long as it ran the ball 44 times for 278 yards while throwing a mere nine passes. The Devils completed two of them for 25 yards.

The high point for Braxton came on the opening drive of the second half when it used a lot of sweeps and a couple of passes to set up Jordan Macy's one-yard touchdown run.

Calhoun responded with a long drive of its own with Randy Fluharty going the final seven yards for the touchdown. Moore's extra point kick set the final 21-7 score.

Braxton did have one last threat left in it as it used a 15-yard personal foul against Calhoun to keep the drive alive along with a five-yarder moments later which also kept the drive going.

Braxton, 4-6, got the ball to the one-yard line only to have Calhoun's defense rise up and stop the Eagles at the six on fourth down.

After that Braxton had a couple of chances but both ended in futility.

Randy Fluharty led the Red Devils with 126 yards on 19 carries. He also caught one pass for 20 yards. His brother Darrenger had 81 yards on 11 carries while Moore had 54 on 12 carries and Corey Metz 17 on three carries.

Calhoun will close out the regular season Friday night at home against St. Marys.
