Over 100 years old, the Grantsville Hotel

One of Grantsville's landmarks has closed for business. The 100+ year-old Grantsville Hotel and Restaurant closed the doors yesterday evening.

Owner Mary Hickman said it was sad to have to close the business, which also meant the loss of several jobs in the community.

The hotel and restaurant had undergone major renovations in the past three years, and despite ups and downs continued to serve the community.

Mary Hickman said she was very grateful to the patrons who came to the restaurant.

"We appreciate them all," she said.

Re-doing the building took months, after the former owner closed the business. "It was a lot of work," said Mary Hickman. Family members and other folks helped with building, which includes two spacious dining areas and hotel rooms.

Shoppers and visitors to Grantsville have continued to decline in recent years, forcing numerous businesses to close.
