GREENBRIER CO. HAS 38 RABIES CASES

(10/28/2009)
A rabid raccoon shot in Greenbrier Co. is the county's 38th confirmed rabies case this year.

Greenbrier has been battling an unusually high number of rabies cases, striking pets and wild animals.

At least three dogs and one cat have been euthanized, while two dozen domestic animals that were current on rabies vaccinations were given booster shots and placed on 45-day quarantines.

Media is reporting a U.S. Department of Agriculture rabies vaccine drop last month was distributed in the western end of the county, not in the area where most of the cases have occurred.
