Leonard C. Powell, Sr., 56 - Grantsville

Leonard C. Powell, Sr., 56, of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away October 25, 2009 at Minnie Hamilton Health System of Grantsville.

He was born in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late Ira and Opal Powell and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantsville. He had served as a volunteer for the Calhoun County Wood Festival and also the Calhoun County Commission.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Powell; and children, Leonard Powell, Timmy Powell, Kimmy and Curt Pettry; step daughters are Debbie King and Patty and Kenny Gainer; grandchildren are Tara Powell, Tiffany Powell, Brandon Powell, Brittany Hannah, Colby Pettry, Brianna Powell, Keyana Pettry, Levi Gainer, and Leah Gainer; his surviving siblings are Carolyn Allen Leisure, Ira Powell, Jr. and Thelma King; step brother James Smith; and step sister Hazel O'Kuly.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Meadows, Evert Powell, James Powell and Locie Hicks; step mother Winifred Powell; and the family who raised him, Frankie and Burdell (Popeye) Harris.

Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, where friends may call from 4 p.m. until time of services. Reverends Greg Swisher and Kevin Church will officiate. Interment will be in Vaught Chapel Cemetery, Leachtown.
