MEET MINNIE HAMILTON'S LONG TERM CARE FAMILY

(10/13/2009)
Submitted by Jim Sullivan
Public Relations Coordinator
Minnie Hamilton Health System

Minnie Hamilton Health System is introducing a series of articles highlighting the residents of the Long Term Care Unit. Currently, the unit can accommodate up to 24 residents providing such services as restorative nursing care, respiratory care, physical therapy and 24 hour on-call physician services.

The unit hosts a full-time certified activities director and licensed social worker. The lives of our staff are continually enriched by the stories and daily anecdotes of our residents and we would like to share our long-term care family with the community.

We begin our series by introducing Mr. Donald Gatsoff. Donald has been at Minnie Hamilton since March 2004 and currently serves as the Resident Council President. Donald was born December 6, 1932 and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. After school, he enrolled in the Army and served in Korea in the medical corp.

After six years in the army, he returned to Columbus where he and his father eventually opened a restaurant. Donald says he loves to cook, particularly Italian food and items with lots of hot spice. Following the closure of the restaurant, he worked in several labor jobs including working with a carnival and in a factory.

Donald says he likes to travel and to build things with his hands. Since arriving at Minnie Hamilton, Donald has been very active. He takes part in daily activities; he participates in Senior Olympics, and serves on the Resident Council. He enjoys reading his Bible, shopping, listening to music and singing gospel songs. He loves people and is always willing to take time out for conversation.

Donald appreciates all those from the community who stop by to visit or play bingo. He likes the personal attention the staff gives to him. Donald says to come up and visit for a spell and you will see what Minnie Hamilton means to him and the other residents.

The staff describes Donald as funny and a delight to work with. Stop by and say hello to Donald and the other residents at Minnie Hamilton Health System.
