Arnoldsburg Elementary held their annual Open House Tuesday, October 6th. Principal Jeannie Wade welcomed parents and staff. She congratulated the school for making AYP for the 2008-2009 school year.

Mrs. Wade also explained to parents that as part of the county's safety initiative, AES will be receiving a new security system. Upon installation, the system will require visitors to push a buzzer on the outside of the main entrance doors. Once the visitor is identified, the secretary or principal will release the locking system, allowing the doors to be opened. Mrs. Wade stressed that this new procedure is in no way a means to try to keep parents and community members out of the school. It's purpose is solely for the safety of the students. Questions about the new security system can be directed to Mrs. Wade at the school.

Tami Allen informed parents about Title 1 services. She encouraged those in attendance to review the schools 5 Year Strategic Plan and make suggestions for improvement. She also invited parents to a workshop, 'Understanding Your Child's Assessments,' which will be held October 16th.

Joyce Morgan, school nurse, told parents that it is necessary for them to fill out forms if their child takes medicine at school or has any allergies. She gave out information concerning H1N1, and stated that the students at AES will be learning the techniques of proper hand washing during their health classes on Friday, October 9th.

Lisa Groves and Patsy Kisner from the Parent Educator Resource Center shared with parents calming techniques they have been teaching staff members and students: the balloon, the pretzel, and the star. They are holding a Conscious Discipline seminar on October 15th at CMHS. Call 304-354-9504 for more information.

Finally, the PTO was recognized for all the support they give AES. They were specifically thanked for the maintenance done on the playground equipment and for the supplies they distributed to each classroom.
