Ellen R. Young, 65 - Spencer

Ellen R. Young, 65, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at her home, after an extended illness.

She was born Tuesday, May 2, 1944, at Weston, a daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Cottrill Strader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Potts; one daughter, Debbie Potts; and one grandson, Chad Conrad.

Mrs. Young was a charter member of the McKown's Chapel Church, Walton. She was a homemaker and community volunteer. Also, she enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her husband, David Young of Spencer; daughters, Jan Potts Morris and husband, Tom of Sherrill's Ford, NC, Shari Potts Schoolcraft and husband, Tim of Denver, NC, Pat Conrad and husband, Mike of Spencer; brothers, Floyd Strader of Weston and Ralph Strader of Concord, NC; sisters, Mabel Jefferies of Weston, Viola Green of Akron, OH, Pat Hitchcock of Binghamton, NY, Mary McMasters of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Shirley Greathouse of Chippewa Lake, OH; nine grandchildren, Katie Paxton, Summer Meadows, Daniel Stice, Rebecca Anderson, Jeremy Martin, Shannon Bankester, Tammy Boggs, Shelly Ganley, Jason Conrad; 15 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ron Shamblin officiating. Burial will be in the Epling Chapel Cemetery, Looneyville. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are preferred to Hospice Care, Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064 or the David Lee Cancer Center.
