PARISHIONERS RETURN TO CLOSED COUNTRY CHURCH FOR SPECIAL SERVICE

(09/18/2009)

Lifelong friends Frances Davis (seated) and Oleta Kelley

Frances Davis, a resident at Minnie Hamilton Long Term Care, asked recently to go to her old home church one more time, the Fairview United Methodist.

The church located on Norman Ridge is now closed, but a special service was arranged by Jim and Evelyn McCormick of Grantsville on July 24 for Mrs. Davis, age 92, and her lifelong friend Oleta Kelley, age 86, who attended the church together.

The Little Kanawha Handicap Bus and driver, Billy Collins took Mrs. Davis to the church, where a service with singing and prayer was held. After the service she visited the cemetery.

Those attending were, Frances Davis, Oleta Kelley, Dean and Arletta Davis, Jim and Evelyn McCormick, Joan Dawson, Opal Swisher, Eva Yoak Collins, and Shirley Gregory.
