Heavy smoke filled the store building about 7:30 p.m.

Shoppers and store employees evacuated the building.

A Wal-Mart manager told the Herald he was not allowed to comment on the incident, that corporate headquarters would handle public information.

The Spencer-Roane VFD responded to the scene, with early reports saying firemen were trying to locate the origin of the smoke.

Apparently no one was injured.
