FIFTY FAIRMONT STUDENTS LIKELY HAVE SWINE FLU

(09/10/2009)
Marion County health officials say it's likely a third of students at Fairview Middle School have swine flu.

But only two cases of the virus have been confirmed at the school.

Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator Jamie Moore said more than 50 students are displaying symptoms, sore throat, fever and cough.

Janitors are wiping down doorknobs, railings and other hard surfaces every 45 minutes.

Buses are also being disinfected and students are being encouraged to wash their hands.

Marion County Schools Assistant Superintendent Gary Price said 64 students at Fairview Middle were absent Tuesday.

Parents were notified of the situation.
