In a race that was about as razor thin as you can get the Charleston Catholic girls team won the Second Annual Calhoun Invitational championship Tuesday evening at Calhoun Park.

Charleston Catholic, led by Sami Harris' third place finish, came in with a team total of 39, one point better than Williamstown (40) and two better than Doddridge County (41).

Individual honors, however, went to a pair of Herbert Hoover runners as Erica Hayes took first place with a time of 21:09 while Michala Shamblin was second with a time of 21:57.

Kaitlen Collins was Calhoun's top finisher in 35th while Athena Wagoner finished 37th.

On the boys side Doddridge took a rather convincing win behind the one-two finish of Tanner Mattie and Daniel Clevenger. Mattie posted a time of 18:56 while Clevenger came in at 19:06 as the Bulldogs scored 31 points to beat Charleston Catholic (40) by nine. Williamstown took third with 59 points.

Calhoun's top male finisher was Zach Hanshaw with a time of 21:30 was 15th while Mark Bedree was 43rd with a time of 31:25.

Charleston Catholic won the middle school boys division with a score of 21. Doddridge was second with 49 while Williamstown took third with 56.

Individual honors went to Charleston Catholic's Mathew Brafford with a time of 11:41.

Calhoun's top finisher was William Baker who had a time of 15:06 for 19th place.

Williamstown powered its was to the middle school girls title with a near perfect 15. Williamstown had five of the first six runners with only Charleston Catholic's Megan Carr finishing second to deny the sweep of the top five places.

Williamstown's Sarah Settle posted a time of 13:32 for first place.

Doddridge was the victim of the Yellowjackets' onslaught in second place with 48 points. They were the only two teams scoring points in the meet as the only two full teams.

Calhoun had no runner in the division due to injuries.
