| Submitted by Kelley Houchin The Calhoun High School Volleyball team opened the 2009 season at home Thursday, Sept. 3 hosting LKC South foe Clay County. Clay claimed the victory in four sets 25-10, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-19. Serving for Calhoun: Rochelle Gerwig 14 pts, 5 aces; Ashley Houchin 8, (3); Amber Wilford 6, (2); Michelle Hall 3, Jordan Mace 2, and Karissa Reip 1. Setting: Houchin 43/45, 15 assists. Hitting: Reip 9/11, 3 kills; Mace 8/11, 3; Gerwig 8/10 , 3; Wilford 5/7, Taylor Green 5/6, 3; Michelle Hall 2/4. Blocks: Wilford 5, Gerwig 2, Green 1. Digs: Gerwig 3; Kenzie Laughlin 2; Houchin 4; Samantha Church 2; Reip 2. The JV team fell to Clay 25-23 and 25-21. The CHS Varsity team traveled to West Union Saturday Sept 5 to take part in the ten team, Bulldog Bash. Calhoun defeated Braxton and St. Albans but fell to Doddridge and South Harrison in pool play. Ashley Houchin was selected to the All Tournament team along with Megan Ellison - Wirt; Sierra Carver - Clay; Sam Bailey and Erica Smith - Doddridge; Hilary Young - Nicholas; Nicole Sadecky and Emily Moss - Ravenswood. Calhoun Varsity traveled to Parkersburg Catholic Sept. 8 for a varsity tri with Catholic and St. Marys and hosts Roane County on Thursday, Sept. 10 in a Junior Varsity/Varsity match.
