Richard E. Howell, 56 - Orma

Richard E. Howell, 56, of Orma, West Virginia, passed away August 28, 2009 at his home.

He was born February 26, 1953 in Salem, Ohio and lived much of his life in Alliance, Ohio until discharged from the US Navy in 1976. After coming home he married Carol J. Nutter, also from Alliance, on December 3, 1977.

Rick and his family moved to Weirton, WV in 1988, where he managed a Kentucky Fried Chicken business from 1977 to 2004. He finished his career for KFC after sustaining a massive head injury and a heart attack. His wife Carol cared for him at their home at Orma until his death.

Rick and Carol have 2 sons, Jason Howell age 30 of Morgantown and Derrick Howell age 29 also of Morgantown. Both are attending West Virginia University. In-Laws are Jim and Sharon Hull of Orma; Kathy Fisher, Patty and David Morris, Gary Mangus, Richard and Laura Nutter all of Alliance, Ohio, and whom Rick considered his family and spent the majority of his life with. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Shirley Mangus and several nieces and nephews, and a grandson, Liam who was the love and joy of Rick's life.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lois Whistler Howell; grandparents, Donald and Twila Miller; an infant son in 1977 and a grandmother, Ruth Perry in 1997.

A memorial service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 5 at the family residence at Orma.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Traumatic Brain Injury Program at West Virginia University or to Hospice LHC Group at 1326 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
