ANGLERS SOUGHT FOR LABOR DAY TOURNEY & DERBY

The City of Spencer and Love and Kindness REACT (Recreation and Education for Adults and Children Together) have teamed up to present the second annual Labor Day Bass Tournament and Kids' Fishing Derby at Charles Fork Lake Monday, September 7.

The bass fishing tournament will be held from 6 to 11 a.m. with check-in beginning at 5 a.m. Each angler may weigh up to two fish with the largest bass kept.

First place will pay $100, second place $60 and third place $40.

Camping sites at Charles Fork Lake are available for those interested for $8 a day.

Bass tournament entry fee is $25 in advance of the event or $30 day of the event.

Applications are available at Spencer city hall or online at www.fishlaborday.com Folks may find an entry form in advertisements in the Roane County Reporter or Traders Guide. You may request an application by email by writing to: toby@loveandkindnesschurch.com

Deadline to enter is September 4th. Folks may pay their fee online with a credit card. No credit cards are accepted onsite. Boat loading dock will be closed on Labor Day from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. during the tournament.

A free Kids' Fishing Derby will be held at noon at the lake on the dock. Children may register for the contest beginning at 11 a.m. A drawing will be held to determine seating locations on the dock. Each child must fish with an adult. The adult will bait the hook and remove the fish from the hook. The child must reel the fish in. Any size fish counts.

Each child will fish in one 20 minute round. Derby is limited to the total number of children that may fish in three rounds based upon dock size. One boy and one girl with the most catches during the derby wins free bicycles. The dock will be closed for fishing from 10-1 in preparations for the derby.

Anglers must be licensed to fish in West Virginia. No gasoline powered boat motors allowed to be used in the lake. No minnows as bait. Live wells will be checked. Everyone in the boat must be registered for the tournament, no exceptions. All coast guard rules apply for boating. Bank fishing is permitted. Anglers may weigh two fish at any time during the tournament.

After the second fish has been weighed, the angler must exit the lake. Tournament ends at 11:00 a.m. and all anglers must be visibly " heading to the dock with their poles down. All boats must be docked no later than 11:05 a.m.

Tournament judge's decisions are final. All participants agree to allow their photo to be used in tourney promotions and news articles. There are no refunds.
