Calhoun Commission workers through Workforce WV received special attention yesterday with a cook-out held at Wayne Underwood Field.

A Workforce representative said the 60 or so Calhoun youth working for the summer program were great producers.

The commission workers labored this summer at the courthouse, for the Town of Grantsville, at Wayne Underwood Field and the Calhoun Park.

Supervisor Mike Jackson proudly displayed a number of visible projects around the old football field, from roofing a snack bar to painting a number of buildings.

Clerk Richard Kirby was burger-meister

Supervisor Dan Cosgrove said his Calhoun Park workers accomplished a large number of tasks, from working on primitive campsites, a golf driving range, and reclaiming ponds to Heritage Village projects, weed-eating, brush cutting and painting.

"Perhaps one of the important items in the summer program, was teaching participants how to write a resume," Cosgrove said.

Karen Kirby, principal at Calhoun Middle-High School praised the 24-students and three supervisors who worked on the school property.

"They did landscaping, washed walls, cleaned seats, used power washers and painted," Kirby said.

About 20 workers were assigned to Minnie Hamilton Health System.
