KIRBY YOUTH SLOWLY IMPROVING - Coming Out Of Coma

(02/09/2002)
Everett "Nicky" Kerby is continuing to slowly improve, according to his father, Warren "Bud" Kerby.

"He seems to be coming out of it," said Kerby, referring to the 18-year-old being in a coma since he was injured in a car accident in Nashville, the first week of January.

"His eyes are open, he is turning his head a little, and he seems to recognize some people," he said. He is also moving his legs and arms.

"I think when they remove the tube from his throat, he will try and talk."

Care for the youth is being delivered at the family's home on Barnes Run, after being in Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Another youth, the driver of the car, died instantly.
