PLANE DOWN IN JACKSON COUNTY - Responders On Scene, Something Likely Happened To Pilot

(07/30/2009)
10:30 PM - Emergency responders are headed to what has been reported as a plane crash in Jackson County at Skull Run Rd., 7-8 miles from Ravenswood toward the Parkersburg area off Rt. 68.

Area residents reported hearing a crash and seeing a fireball.

Radio scanner traffic was heard reporting an F-16 military craft was circulating in the air over the alleged crash site.

10:45 - The crash happened about 10 p.m. The FAA is saying that a Cirrus SR-22 plane took off from Nebraska at about 6 p.m. and was headed to Eagle Creek, Indiana.

They say controllers lost contact at 8 p.m.

Authorities are already saying they believe the pilot became incapacitated during flight.

That could explain the scanner traffic referring to an F-16 in the area tracking the planes flight path, according to the FAA, it was estimated the plane would run out of fuel near Henderson WV.

The crash happened 12 mile NE of Henderson.
