Bayer MaterialScience in New Martinsville is closing its resins operations in New Martinsville, leaving 40 workers out of a job.

Company spokespersons Sean Kelly says it is part of the company's ongoing global restructuring initiative.

The Bayer company recently faced harsh criticism after their Kanawha County plant had an explosion and two workers died.

Among their many problems, several environmental, the company failed to notify authorities what was at risk when the chemical plant was on fire, even failing to communicate critical risks with local fire departments.

The globalized jobs in West Virginia, according to several estimates, exceed 30,000.
