MT. ZION PSD BOARD ACCEPTS RON LANE BID FOR WATER PROJECT

(07/15/2009)
An Arnoldsburg-based business has been approved as the low bidder for Calhoun's latest 29-mile water extension project, according to Mt. Zion Public Service District chairperson Sharon Postalwait.

The three members of the Mt. Zion PSD approved the Ronald Lane, Inc. bid of $3,233,033 at a meeting Monday evening.

Postalwait indicated the PSD is looking at the possibility of using excess money from the project to extend the water system to more customers.

Calhoun commissioner Chip Westfall says he is hopeful the excess funds can be used to improve the Mt. Zion PSD system.

A number of bidders, officials and community members recently attended the bid opening for the county's $5.2 million water project.

Mid-Atlantic Storage Systems, a company supplying water storage tanks, was a sole bidder at $319,6000.

Other bids opened:

- Bruce Allen $3,433,065

- FARMCO, Inc. $3,696,065

- Houchin Construction $4,684,775

- Tri-State Pipeline $3,711,150

The bid for Pro-Contracting, Inc. was not announced because the bid lacked an authority clause.

A bid for water storage tanks from Welding, Inc. was declared "not a responsible bidder."

Three companies, B. Miller Excavating, Meadows Stone and Paving and Woodco Pipeline, Inc. decided not to bid.

Consulting engineers Boyles and Hildreth are managing the bids, and will review Lane's bid for final approval, Postalwait said.

Construction of the 29-mile project is expected to begin this fall, stretching between Russett and Chloe.
