NEW STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS SURFACE AT PLEASANT HILL SCHOOL

(07/09/2009)
New problems have surfaced at Pleasant Hill Elementary School.

The school is currently undergoing a major overhaul, including the replacement of sewage lines and other problems that likely go back to the school's original construction.

The county has received $1.6 million from the state to make the repairs.

Board members learned Monday evening about cracks in the wall, likely related to foundation problems.

Administrator Frank Tetrick said the completion date has now been extended to October, instead of the earlier time line before school starting this fall.

Representatives of ZDS Design/Consulting Services Ted Zachwieja and Carol Stevens gave the board some of the bad news, outlining unforeseen structural problems that need corrected in order to eliminate water intrusion under and through exterior walls and floors of the school.

School officials acknowledged the new problems will exceed the funds received from the state to make the initial repairs, and further funding will be sought.
