CDC SAYS ONE MILLION AMERICANS HAD SWINE FLU - 167 Confirmed WV Cases

(04/03/2009)
At least 167 people in West Virginia had been confirmed to have the swine flu virus.

Nine patients in the state had been hospitalized, with no deaths, according to the state Bureau for Public Health.

Wood County has had the highest incidence.

The current number of U.S. swine flu cases has reached nearly 34,000, with nationwide deaths at 170.

Four out of five of the deaths to date were adults aged 25 or older, although seven of the most recent deaths were children, according to the CDC.

CDC is now saying they believe the reported cases which sought treatment and underwent testing are just the tip of the iceberg, indicating more than 1 million Americans have been infected.

Many had a mild case.

Health experts are expressing concerns about how Swine Flu will affect the country's high-risk population during this year's fall and winter flu season.
