Sheldon C. Stevens, 87, of Parkersburg

Sheldon C. Stevens, 87, of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Grantsville, the son of the late Francis K. and Lulu Starcher Stevens.

He owned Broadway Barber Shop for 46 years and was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent for many years. He was a life member of VFW and American Disabled Veterans.

Surviving are one daughter, Judith Ann Hawkins; two grandsons; four great-granddaughters; three brothers, Samuel Stevens of Munday, James Stevens of Ohio and Donald Stevens of Grantsville; three sisters, Retta Johnson and Geneva Wilson, both of Grantsville, and Rachel Smith of St. Marys; special family friend, Mike Sargent of Belpre; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Emily Stevens, in 2007, and two brothers, Festus Stevens and Cleo Stevens.

Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Don Yeager officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites by Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge 3 and military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg.
