MUSTANG SURVIVAL WILL LOCATE PLANT AT SPENCER

(06/25/2009)
Mustang Survival in Elizabeth was expected to announce the opening of a new facility to be located in Spencer.

The Herald was not able to confirm the announcement, which was to be made in Elizabeth yesterday, although several sources yesterday indicated the selection.

Hundreds of applicants from Calhoun and Roane County showed up at a related job fair held in Spencer in April.

Gov. Joe Manchin, with corporate officials from the Canadian company, was to announce the expansion into the Goodrich Building in Spencer.

Mustang says the expansion is expected to create 20 jobs immediately with 20 additional positions in the near future.

Company officials said it could lead to about 100 jobs within two years.

Production jobs start at $8 an hour with benefits.

Mustang looked at sites in Wood County.

The Elizabeth plant employs about 100 workers.

Mustang manufactures personal flotation devices, survival suits and other life-saving equipment for NASA and the military.
