Samuel G. Stevens

Samuel G. Stevens went to be with Jesus on June 18, 2009 following a courages battle with pancreatic cancer.

Sam was a member of the Strait Creek Baptist Church where he loved to play and sing gospel music.

He was born in Grantsville, West Virginia July 23, 1937 a son of the late Francis K. and Lulu Starcher Stevens. He was retired from John Mansville after 34 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Stevens; a son, Alvin and Joni Stevens of Lubeck; a step son, Tim and Lisa Bunner of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Chris Stevens of New Martinsville, Robert and Tina Stevens, and Jennifer Bianco all of Morgantown, Matthew and Kelly Bunner of Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Robert Stevens Jr., Ethan Stevens, Shane Bianco, and Ray Bianco; two brothers, James Stevens of Ohio and Donald "Duck" Stevens of Grantsville; three sisters, Retta Johnson and Geneva Wilson of Grantsville, and Rachel Smith of St. Mary's.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis, and three brothers, Festus, Cleo and Sheldon Stevens.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville with Rev. Dobby Thrash officiating. Burial will be in the Wright Cemetery at Cremo. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Sam's wish was that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the American Cancer Society, 3901 Briscoe Run Road, Parkersburg, WV 26104.
