SUTTON LAKE'S BEER BAN DISCRIMINATORY

(06/17/2009)
Sutton Lake's total ban on beer is unreasonable, discriminatory and begs an explanation to West Virginia's congressional delegation and the Army Corps of Engineers

A legislative panel issued the statement yesterday.

The Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Subcommittee voted to send letters to the Army, as well as Sens. Robert C. Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, both D-W.Va., asking for the reason behind the Sutton beer ban.

"There's no consistency here," said Sen. Ed Bowman, D-Hancock, saying the prohibition isn't in force at any other lake in West Virginia.

Bowman said, "We demand an explanation."
