Kathy Wood will be Calhoun's new E-911/OES Director July 1

Chloe resident Kathy Wood has been hired as Calhoun's new E-911 and Office of Emergency Service director.

She has been the county's OES director since 2008.

The Calhoun Commission combined the two positions effective July 1.

Current E-911 Director Gary Buchanan has resigned from his position which he has held for about two-and-one-half years.

Wood was selected from a pool of three candidates recommended by the county's E-911 Advisory Board. The commission received seven applications.

"I will work with all our agencies to help improve communication problems and response times," said Wood.

Wood said the OES is working on erecting one or more communication towers to eliminate dead spots experienced in some parts of the county.

During the past several weeks, as the county's OES Director, she helped provide assistance to several situations related to the May flooding, including getting Calhoun approved by FEMA for individual property relief.

Wood has also worked as a part-time dispatcher at Calhoun Control and is an Emergency Medical Technician.

She has also worked as a West Virginia corrections officer.

Wood has participated in extensive training related to emergency services, saying "It is an never-ending process of learning."
