WV'S FIRST CASE OF SWINE FLU CONFIRMED

(06/03/2009)
The first case of swine flu has been officially confirmed in West Virginia.

Seven probable cases of the flu were confirmed last week in the Mountain State and were sent to the federal Centers for Disease Control certified lab in Atlanta for further testing and confirmation.

One test came back positive, CDC spokesman Joseph Quimby told The Associated Press.

The confirmed case is a New York resident who tested positive for the H1N1 virus and was treated in Raleigh County, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
