RECESSION WATCH: Coal Jobs Lost

(05/30/2009)
A Huntington waterfront operation, Ingram Marine has announced it will shut down its barge terminal on May 31st.

The terminal has been in operation for about 70 years.

They say 24 people work there, nearly all will lose their jobs by June 30th.

The terminal transfers coal from rail cars to barges.

The company says there is not enough long term business to justify keeping the terminal open.

Foundation Coal says it has laid off 60 miners and trimmed production at four southern West Virginia mines. following a number of other mining layoffs in WV.

Chief Executive James Roberts is blaming declining prices and less demand for the cuts.
