The Gilmer County school system has a new superintendent.

John D. Bennett, who currently heads the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center and is mayor of Glenville, will succeed former Superintendent Ed Toman.

Bennett has announced he will not seek re-election as Glenville's mayor.

Bennett says he is excited about the opportunity and hopes to work on the structural issues in the county's elementary schools.

He will finish his term as mayor on June 30th and take over as superintendent on July 1st.
