ATTORNEY ARNOLD HOSPITALIZED AFTER VERDICT - Reportedly Injected Self With Horse Tranquilizer

(01/29/2002)
Former Spencer attorney 47-year-old Kathy Arnold is reportedly hospitalized for mental and emotional problems following the conviction of her husband Eric Arnold in Roane County Circuit Court.

Arnold reportedly injected herself with horse tranquilizer after hearing the verdict given her husband. Roane courthouse sources, who asked not to be identified, said the woman locked herself in a rest room and refused to come out.

Roane County prosecutor Mark Sergeant said last week that a mental hygiene evaluation would be conducted on Ms. Arnold, who is facing the same set of charges filed against her husband.

Huntington's River Park Hospital declined to give a status report on Arnold, but Charleston Area Medical Center confirmed she was transferred to that facility after being in their Intensive Care Unit.

Eric Arnold was found guilty on eleven counts of animal cruelty related to the couple starving animals, mostly horses, on their Roane County farm in 1999.
