Rose Mary Smith Pattison, 90, prominent educational administrator, died at Friendship Village of Columbus, May 4, 2009.

Born March 5, 1919, in Elana, W.Va., predeceased by parents William Hunter and Roxie Gay Sibert Smith, brothers and sister-in-law, H. Paul and Virginia Smith; and J. Calvin Smith.

Survived by sister-in-law, Mary Lou Smith. Rose Mary loved her family: children, George (Marsha) Pattison of Milford, Kay (Frederick) Meister of Columbus, Carol (John) Stegmiller, Upper Arlington; grandchildren, Geoffrey (Mindy) Pattison and Megan Pattison of Milford, Erica (Constantine) Hondroulis, Daniel Meister and Christina Soehnlen of Bexley, David Stegmiller of Redwood City, Calif., Dr. Nancy (Dr. Maurice) Henein of Indianapolis, Capt. George (Kristen) Stegmiller II, USMC, Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif., Anne (Adam) Edwards, Upper Arlington; great-grandchildren, Reagan Bodley, Olivia Pattison, Fritz and Henry Hondroulis, Daisy and Lewis Henein, Braylen and baby brother Edwards; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

A graduate of Clay County, W.Va., High School, West Virginia University (BS Home Economics, 1941), The Ohio State University (MA Higher Education, 1965). Employed by Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, Assistant Director; Ohio Board of Regents Assistant to Vice Chancellor; Black Hawk College, Moline, Ill., Director of Adult Education; US Office of Education, Regional Training Institute; Indiana State Department of Public Instruction Director of Adult Basic Education, Indianapolis, where she instituted the GED program in the prisons; State of OH Department of Education, Supervisor of Adult Basic Education; The Ohio State University, School of Home Economics, Instructor, Counselor. Recognized by Who's Who of American Women, she represented the US and gave presentations at international education conferences in Montreal, Canada, and Salzburg, Austria. White House Conference on Aging delegate. Received the Alfred J. Wright Award for service to OSU; Illinois State 4-H Alumni Award, National Adult Public School Educators, National President. All-Star, National 4-H Honorary (W.Va.). Member Worthington United Methodist Church, Columbus Metropolitan Club, NSDAR past Regent, Altrusa, Project Hope, Northland Community Council, Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, Phi Upsilon Omicron Honorary, Brooks Bird Club, Child Conservation League.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Dorothea Ames Maloney officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery, Uler, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
