The U.S. Census Bureau says that West Virginia's population is the second oldest in the nation.

Florida is No. 1 with 17 percent of its population age 65 and over.

West Virginia is a close second with 16 percent, followed by Pennsylvania with 15 percent.

West Virginia's median age is now 40.6, up from 39.8 from the 2000 census.

The oldest county in West Virginia is Pendleton, the median age was 45.9.

Monongalia is the youngest county, with a median age of 30.8.
