CABOT RECYCLING NOW ACCEPTS ELECTRONIC DEVICES

(06/22/2009)
Cabot Recycling Station, the recycling center operated by the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority, now accepts any type of electronic device for recycling. Such devices include cell phones, VCRS, DVD players, radios, CD players, computers, answering machines, and other household electronic items.

With the exception of televisions, there is no charge for the service. "With the upcoming switch to digital television, we are excited about being able to recycle televisions, but since we have to pay to recycle them, we will be asking for a $15 donation to recycle them for you." said Tom Degen, facility manager at Cabot Recycling Station.

The Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority has operated a recycling center since 1995, but Cabot Recycling Station has been at its present location in the old Cabot Pumping Station on Rt. 5 since 2002.

There is a room at the center that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for recycling paper, plastic, cardboard, steel cans, aluminum cans, household batteries, and now electronic devices.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 until 4, and Saturdays 8 until noon, the facility is open to buy nonferrous metals and lead-acid batteries from the public. People wanting to recycle televisions should bring them by on those days so they can make their $15 donation.

The current economic downturn has hurt the metals market, but prices on some metals are starting to recover. For more information, call Cabot Recycling Station at 304-354-7786.

Cabot Recycling Station will also have a Tire Collection on May 30. For more info see Tire Collection Set For Calhoun County
