FORMER GRANTSVILLE POLICE CHIEF LIKELY STRUCK BY BALL BAT

(05/02/2009)
Former Grantsville police chief J. D. Nicholson, according to the Times Record-Roane County Reporter, was allegedly struck by a ball bat by an unknown assailant on his front porch.

Nicholson, a resident of Walton, was life-flighted to a Charleston hospital, where he was treated and released.

Roane County deputy sheriff Mike King said at least two people appear to be involved in the altercation. "There was one guy in the driveway and one who hit him from behind," he said.

King said no charges have been filed, but the sheriff's department is following up on leads.

Nicholson, who also worked for the Calhoun Sheriff's department as a process server, was an unsuccessful candidate for Roane County sheriff last year.
