BRAXTON STATE POLICEMAN BREAKS LEG CHASING CAR THIEF

(05/01/2009)
A Braxton County State Police trooper is recovering after breaking his leg while chasing a man accused of stealing a car.

Senior Trooper J.E. Kincaid was investigating a vehicle that was reported stolen from a business in Braxton County when he fell over a hillside and snapped his right femur, said a State Police spokesperson.

Police said Kincaid had received a tip that the person responsible for the auto theft was Donald Bowers, 31, of Napier.

The trooper went to Bowers' home to investigate, but when Bowers saw Kincaid, he took off running.

Kincaid ran after him, but lost his footing and tumbled over a steep embankment.

Kincaid was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Police are still searching for Bowers.

Troopers recovered the stolen vehicle submerged in Burnsville Lake.
