SPENCER MAN DEAD OF GUNSHOT WOUND - Jason Mace Is Victim, Step-Father Is Suspect

A Roane County man died early Thursday morning of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Roane County authorities.

Jason Mace, about 23, was reportedly shot by his step-father Teddy McClain, about 50, although police say McClain is a suspect. The shooting happened on Triplett Road, about one mile off U.S. 33 and 119 near Bower's Hill, east of Spencer.

A family spokesperson said Mace had entered the McClain house when the shooting occurred. No explanation for the killing has been given. Roane Sheriff Todd Cole and his department are investigating.

Roane EMS responded to the scene about 6:30 a.m. Roane County coroner Don Smith has sent the body to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.

The victim was the son of Joe Mace and the late Debbie Boyles Mace
