400 TURN OUT FOR PROSPECTIVE MUSTANG SURVIVAL JOBS IN SPENCER

(04/11/2009)
About 400 people lined up at Spencer's community building this week, applying for jobs at a proposed plant that is looking at two sites in the region, one in Spencer and the other in Mineral Wells.

Officials in Wood County said about 100 turned up at a job fair there, with Wirt County's Mustang Survival looking to expand.

A large number of Calhoun residents turned out to fill out applications, with some actually being interviewed.

The jobs would pay $8 an hour, with benefits.

Spencer is offering space in the old Kellwood sweater factory without cost to Mustang.

Mustang makes flight suits for NASA and safety equipment. The company, reportedly, will benefit from the federal stimulus package.

Mark Whitley, the executive director of the Roane and Jackson county development authority, says the region has third-generation textile workers, whose families once worked at Kellwood and BF Goodrich Aerospace.

A timeline of when Mustang will decide where to locate the plant was not announced.
