Bernadine Ayers Evans, 85 - Grantsville

Bernadine Ayers Evans, 85, of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away April 5, 2009 at Minnie Hamilton Health System, Grantsville.

She was born July 12, 1923 in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Bernard (Bud) Ayers and Sue Ferrell Ayers.

She attended Grantsville Grade School and was a graduate of Calhoun High School with the class of 1944.

She married William Reed July 16, 1945 and to this union was born a son, Bernard L. Reed of Grantsville.

Mrs, Evans was a graduate of the American Institute of Practical Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, December 23, 1962. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #82 in Grantsville. She was a member of the Poetry Hall of Fame in Washington, DC and had written various church sermons and was an avid Bible student. She was a published poet with her final writing published in 2003. She was also a former employee of Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and a member of Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her second husband, Walter Reed in 1971.

Surviving in addition to her son Bernard are a step son, Allen Evans of Weston, WV and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. rev. Caroll McCauley and Rev. Mary Zimmer will officiate. Interment will be in the Bethlehem cemetery at Grantsville.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
